Thumbnails

Just experimenting with some quick thumbnails for environment, not relating to my books. These were done just in pencil but I will develop my ideas more digitally in the coming days.

  1. Hey Meg,

With your 2 book excerpts, they can sort of encourage you towards worrying a lot about perspective and drawing rooms etc. But remember, you're a concept artist being asked to bring these spaces alive for the purposes of animation, which means you can think in a very stylised or theatrical way. For example, take a look at this wonderful animated version of Poe's The Tell-Tale Heart - just look at the rather stark way the animation evokes the various spaces.

and take a look at this animated adaptation too:

You can absolutely exaggerate, play with scale and distortion etc. So don't get caught up worrying about 'oh no, I've got to draw lots of corners of rooms etc...' Try and draw the mood and atmosphere as much as anything else. Have fun and don't over think anything at this stage :)
