Life Drawing 15-01-14
First week drawing Francis. I found it quite difficult and we were just getting back into life drawing after the Christmas break. I thought trying to get all of his proportions accurate was tough and I need to practise drawing hands I think!

Life Drawing 3
First time drawing a male model, I found it okay, but I'll admit I much preferred the female.
We started with three poses on one page, five minutes each, and I tried to get information down to show the shadows. Next was a continuous line drawing which wasn't so bad, I also included some of the objects in the background around him. (roughly 20 mins). Third was a sitting down pose (roughly 25 mins) using what we wanted so I started off in pencil then went over in charcoal. Last we drew Alan in five poses for just one minute each, I wasn't really that happy with the overall outcome of this one in comparison to the quick poses of Jane but there's always time to improve ! (:

Life Drawing 1
In today's life drawing class we had a female model called Jane, (who I have drawn before in my foundation year). I really enjoy the drawing classes, I find them very relaxing and gives me a break from fixing my eyes on the computer screens. The first drawing was a single pose observation which we spent about 20 minutes on, I thought this one was the least successful as I don't think I got the proportions very accurate and just wasn't pleased with the overall appearance of it.
The second time, Jane held six different poses for just a minute each, I really enjoyed this exercise and although I felt a bit rushed, it got me working really quickly and loosely and I was surprised by how well some of them turned out. I especially liked the bottom right one :)
The third piece we drew Jane in two 15 minute sitting poses. I also thought this one was good as we had a lot more time to add some detail and tonal elements and use a medium of our choice, I stuck with the charcoal at first but then worked over the top with some ink so it was a lot bolder.
The final exercise was to draw Jane in 15 poses that were held for 30 seconds each which I found a bit more difficult as the time went so quickly and I was running out of room on my sheet of paper! The idea was to work very loose again with just a few suggestive lines etc and to try and capture the movement of her body and how it changes in the different positions.

Perspective Exercises
Just developing and practicing my perspective skills again as last time I didn't get the three-point perspective quite right, but now I think I have it right this time :D

Still Life
Today we created an arrangement of objects on the floor of the life drawing room to observe and replicate in the style that we wished - I found the task fun yet challenging.
We began making a drawing of what we could see and most people used charcoal / graphite as their medium, and we were given about 20 - 30 minutes to do this. The second time was much more free and independent style, I used mixed media for my piece. I started out with pencil, then fine liner, marker pens, water and coloured pastels; trying to create a good sense of perspective by adding more tone and detail into the objects nearest me. The final piece was a mixture of 4 / 5 different people's styles on one sheet of paper... we drew some of the still life for 3 minutes then moved clockwise round the circle to add something to the next drawing. The outcomes were interesting and it was a unique way of working.

Perspective Exercises
I tried to practice my perspective drawing skills, experimenting with one, two and three point perspectives.
This just a quick exercise to see what I could do, I think I still need a little more practice on this as some of them don't look quite right in places.
I will try again soon to try and sort out where I'm going wrong.
